Second Update (New maps and some bug fixes)

Time for a new update and some discussion about game design, asset workflow, and bug fixes! But before starting, I want to thank everyone for playing the game and giving feedback! It makes game development easier and more fun!

Bugs

Let's start with the two bugs, the first bug was a visual one, which occurred in the vehicle selection screen. This bug is only visual, so it does not affect the gameplay. This bug has still not been fixed, because it only shows up in the built version, but in the Unity editor. I am suspecting it is a missing tag, from reading similar thread posts. The second bug is gameplay related, the velocity vector has not correctly set. so the hovercraft would deviate to the right! But this could be a way to introduce wind as a game mechanic, which is something I want to experiment with.

Level Design

In the last iteration, I tried a basic level design which tested the basic movement of the player. A lot of players had a problem with level 3, this level was designed to encourage players to use the boost control. I think one way to improve is to try to introduce a simple jump level where the distance keeps increasing after every jump, to get comfortable with the boost function.

In this iteration, I tried to construct maps with different heights. I found the design of level 8 made sure that players need to use the brake to get a higher height. I think in the next iteration I am thinking of implementing a variable jump height, which controlled by holding the jump button longer.

Asset workflow

I am currently trying different art styles. I have moved away from single colors and I am now trying to use procedural wave and Voronoi textures instead. I have also started to construct an efficient way to bake PBR maps from Blender to Unity.

Features for the next update

For the next update, I want to implement platforms with different power-ups and a variable jump feature.

I hope you have a good time playing the game! And if you have any suggestions, issues, or feedback, I am always happy to hear them!
